New Range Rover Sport Finally Arrives in Japan

Jaguar Land Rover Japan has announced the specifications for the "new Range Rover Sport" for the Japanese market. Sales will commence on Saturday, November 30th.

All-Aluminum Body Achieves Weight Reduction of Up to 240kg

Unveiled in March this year at theNew York Auto Show,the Range Rover Sport, whose Japanese launch had been eagerly awaited,made an appearance at theTokyo Motor Show 2013. The new model, featuring an all-aluminum body, high driving performance, and a refined exterior, has finally landed in Japan.

The most significant highlight of the new Range Rover Sport is the adoption of an all-aluminum structure utilizing dynamic chassis technology, which has achieved a weight reduction of up to 240kg despite an overall increase in body size. This diet has enhanced its dynamic performance, enabling a combination of agile handling and comfort, with a particularly dramatic improvement in on-road driving performance.

Meanwhile, it also delivers robust off-road performance befitting the Range Rover brand. With a minimum ground clearance increased by 51mm to 278mm compared to the previous model, it can handle even harsh road conditions. The improved next-generation Terrain Response 2 system automatically selects the optimal two ride heights. Switching to off-road mode while driving can now be done at speeds up to 80 km/h, making it capable of handling long stretches of muddy terrain.

Furthermore, it is equipped with a newly developed Wade Sensing function that provides water depth information when driving through rivers. With a maximum wading depth of 850mm, 150mm deeper than the previous model, this feature proves even more useful.

The exterior features a reinterpretation of the distinctive design of the previous model, adopting a streamlined, contemporary, yet powerful appearance. The interior offers expanded space due to the increased wheelbase. With the optional seating for up to seven passengers, a third row of seats is available, electrically deploying from a flat trunk space when needed.

Pricing starts at 7.98 million yen for the "Range Rover Sport SE" equipped with a 3-liter V6 DOHC supercharged engine, and 9.03 million yen for the "Range Rover Sport HSE." Additionally, the "Range Rover Sport Autobiography Dynamic" with a 5-liter V8 DOHC supercharged engine is priced at 12.6 million yen.
