Enhanced Safety and Convenience Through Cutting-Edge Technology
World Premiere on November 18The new MINI, with its world premiere already announced for November 18, is gradually revealing more information from BMW. This latest announcement focuses on driver assistance systems designed to enhance safety and convenience.
One of the newly introduced devices is a head-up display projected onto a transparent screen. While recent BMW models feature head-up displays projected directly onto the windshield, MINI has opted for a transparent screen positioned behind the steering wheel to enhance the MINI character.
The purpose of the head-up display is, of course, to convey crucial information to the driver with minimal eye movement. It displays speed, navigation, and critical alerts such as forward collision warnings.
Another significant feature is the front-mounted camera. This technology, which has seen a rapid increase in adoption in recent years, uses computer analysis of video feeds to improve driving safety and convenience.
Functions enabled by the camera include a forward collision warning with pedestrian detection and city braking. Operating at speeds below 60 km/h, it initially issues a warning if the distance to the vehicle ahead is too short or the relative speed difference is too great. If the situation deteriorates, it prompts evasive action with flashing lights and audible alerts. Simultaneously, it prepares for sudden braking by increasing brake pressure and positioning the brake pads closer to the discs.
This warning function automatically activates upon engine start but can be switched on or off. It also allows for setting the sensitivity to early, normal, or late, depending on the situation.
The camera also enables the recognition and display of speed limit and no-passing signs. Recognition works not only during the day but also at night. Furthermore, it can interpret supplementary conditions such as weather and time of day, displaying the appropriate speed limit based on the internal clock and rain sensor for the automatic wipers.
Additionally, the new MINI incorporates features such as cruise control that maintains an appropriate distance from the vehicle ahead, parking assist that automatically controls the steering if parallel parking is possible by measuring the space, a rearview camera, and digital headlight assist, which improves nighttime visibility by automatically controlling the high beams based on oncoming traffic and ambient light.
Exterior AppearanceWhile the exterior of the new MINI appears to maintain a "keep concept" approach, its interior is equipped with the latest electronic control technology, enhancing safety and convenience.
