The Sportiest BMW

The production version of the BMW 4 Series has finally been unveiled.BMW 3 Seriescoupe model has been newly named the 4 Series, becoming a separate model line. This allows for a distinct and differentiated character and design. Meanwhile, concept modelhas not undergone significant changes.

Firstly, regarding the exterior design, the front inherits the 3 Series design but features octagonal twin headlights (full LED are optional) and a wider kidney grille.

Just recently introduced in Japan, the3 Series Gran Turismolike the system that channels air from the intake ahead of the front tires into the front wheel housing and out through ducts called Air Breathers to improve aerodynamic performance, is also adopted in the 4 Series. This serves as a design accent with its wide opening in the bumper and ducts on the side of the body.

The body dimensions are 4,638mm in length, 1,825mm in width, and 1,362mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,810mm. The tread is 1,545mm front and 1,594mm rear. Compared to the current 3 Series sedan, it is 14mm longer and 14mm wider, while the height is a significant 67mm lower. The tread is 14mm wider at the front and 22mm wider at the rear, with the seating position lowered by 10mm and the roll center by 19mm. Furthermore, while based on the 3 Series, the springs, dampers, and their mounting angles have been specially tuned, making it, according to BMW, one of the sportiest models in their lineup.

The rear seats are split-folding 40:20:40. BMW claims that by folding down only the center section, it's possible to carry four people while still accommodating snowboards or skis, and they also offer bags designed for this purpose.

Starting with Three Models

The model lineup consists of two-door models, starting with the "435i Coupe" equipped with a 3.0-liter inline-six gasoline engine, the "428i Coupe" with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder gasoline engine, and the "420d Coupe" with a four-cylinder diesel engine. For the gasoline engine models, the all-wheel-drive xDrive will be available as an option from launch. Additionally, an xDrive model for the 420d is scheduled for release in the fall.

Furthermore, the "420i Coupe" with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder gasoline engine, and the "430d Coupe" and "435d Coupe" with inline-six diesel engines are also planned for introduction.

The transmission options are a 6-speed manual or an 8-speed sport automatic.

All engines are already well-regarded by BMW and naturally feature technologies like BMW TwinPower Turbo, variable valve lift, and variable valve timing to balance fuel efficiency and driving performance. They also come equipped with familiar ecological functions such as coasting mode and ECO PRO mode.

The iDrive system, which now includes touch controls, has been updated with the navigation system, offering sharper graphics, 3D map displays, and a full-color head-up display.

Additionally, the "M Sport" package, which features an aggressive styling with unique front air intakes, a rear bumper with a diffuser, and side skirts, along with a high-gloss black trim and Alcantara sport seats for the interior, will also be available, naturally including sports suspension and dedicated brakes.

Its public debut is expected at theFrankfurt Motor Show, and it will likely go on sale shortly thereafter.
