Design Appears Nearly Finalized
It has become certain that a new model will soon join BMW's X Series. Although it was presented at Auto Shanghai strictly with the word "concept," the exterior of the "X4 Concept" we saw was of such high quality that it suggested it is already in the final stages of production.
The interior details were not revealed this time, but it is undoubtedly safe to assume that the design has already been finalized.
Incidentally, the X4's cabin will be a four-seater as standard, with the center console dividing the space into left and right sections, but a five-seater specification will also be available as an option.
Body Size and Engine Options Largely Based on X3
Compared to the "X6," which has already been launched and well-received in the market, the X4 Concept's body measures 4,648mm in length, making it 227mm shorter.
At 1,622mm, the vehicle height is also 68mm lower in comparison. Naturally, in the Japanese market where official imports will be realized, it may be evaluated as a more practical model than the X6. The 2,810mm wheelbase is identical to that of the base model,X3the "X3."
The engine lineup is also expected to be largely the same as the X3's.
The production model of the X4 is expected to be officially announced sometime in 2014. Production will take place at the Spartanburg plant in South Carolina, USA, similar to the X3.
The actual price is expected to be slightly higher than the X3, as can be inferred from the relationship between theX5and the X6. Nevertheless, for customers who have previously hesitated to purchase the X6 due to various reasons such as size or price, the new X4 model will undoubtedly appeal as a more cost-effective and attractive option.
