A significant piece of news for this model is the addition of a 2WD variant alongside the traditional 4WD model. It is powered by a 3.5-liter V6 direct-injection SOHC "i-VTEC" engine, producing a maximum output of 290 ps and a peak torque of 362 Nm. This engine employs a variable cylinder management (VCM) system that switches between six and three cylinders depending on driving conditions, achieving fuel economy of 11.2 L/100km for the 4WD model and 10.2 L/100km for the 2WD model.
Furthermore, it features a completely redesigned, lightweight chassis. Utilizing over 55 percent advanced lightweight materials, it achieves a weight reduction of 125 kg compared to the previous model.
The exterior is equipped with "Jewel Eye LED headlights," designed to "shine like jewels" whether illuminated or not, offering high visibility and a wide illumination range. The interior significantly improves access to the third-row seats and legroom in the second row through features like one-touch walk-in for the second-row seats and long-slide seats. It also includes the "On-Demand Multi-Use Display," a touch-panel screen for intuitive control of climate, audio, and other functions.
In addition, it incorporates numerous cutting-edge technologies, such as advanced safety features like Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) with low-speed follow and Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS), as well as the next-generation communication technology "AcuraLink."
The new MDX is scheduled to go on sale in the US in mid-2013.
