Aluminum Body Adopted



full model change of the 'Range Rover' last SeptemberSix months after the full model change of the 'Range Rover' last September, the 'Range Rover Sport,' the brand's sporty SUV, has undergone a full model change and been announced.

Range RoverThe Range Rover Sport, which was reportedly developed in parallel with the 'Range Rover,' is positioned model-wise between the 'Range Rover' and'Range Rover Evoque'positioned as a model between the two. It is said to be the fastest, most agile, and most responsive model in Range Rover history.

This new Range Rover Sport is based on the Range Rover and adopts an aluminum body, which had been a point of attention regarding its adoption. While the body size has increased in length by 62mm and width by 55mm compared to the previous generation, it has achieved a weight reduction of up to 420kg.

The air suspension fitted is the fifth generation, with a maximum travel range of 185mm and a maximum ground clearance of 278mm. The single-speed transfer case with a Torsen differential, combined with this, boasts wheel travel of 260mm at the front and 272mm at the rear, reaching an articulation of 546mm.

It also incorporates the latest safety technologies, such as driver assistance systems like Lane Departure Warning, Traffic Sign Recognition, and Automatic High Beam Assist.

Furthermore, a 'Connectivity Package' is available to receive functions such as Stolen Vehicle Tracking, Emergency Call, and Land Rover Assist Call.

The engines offered include a 510ps V8 supercharged engine at the top of the range, a 3.6-liter V6 supercharged engine producing 340ps, and two 6-cylinder diesel engines producing 292ps and 258ps. Additionally, it has been announced that a 4.4-liter V8 diesel engine with 338ps, a 4-cylinder downsized engine, and a diesel hybrid model boasting CO2 emissions of 169g/km will be announced in 2013.

All models feature an 8-speed automatic transmission from ZF. An intelligent stop/start system is also included.

The 'Terrain Response' system has evolved to its second generation, automatically adjusting the vehicle settings for any driving scenario. Furthermore, it newly adopts 'Wade Sensing,' which displays information measured by sensors on the mirrors during water crossings on the display. It warns the driver when the water depth approaches the wading limit of 850mm.

This Range Rover Sport was designed and developed at Land Rover's development center in the UK and will be produced at the low-energy plant in Solihull.
