A Concept Car Foreshadowing Subaru's Future

With a design characterized by Subaru's signature straight, powerful, and simple lines, its expertise in AWD systems, and a horizontally opposed diesel engine. The concept car that appeared at the Subaru booth at the Geneva Motor Show, the "VIZIV CONCEPT," is a crucial model for understanding Subaru's future direction.

This plug-in hybrid model features a 2-door, 4-seater SUV body. It combines a 2-liter horizontally opposed turbo diesel engine with a CVT called Lineartronic, and is equipped with one motor for both drive and power generation at the front, and two motors exclusively for driving at the rear.

The VIZIV CONCEPT has no propeller shaft. This allowed for a lower floor, contributing to the achievement of a spacious interior.



This is one of the benefits of Subaru's next-generation AWD technology, known as "Rear Independent Motor-Driven Symmetrical AWD," which completely separates front and rear drive forces, with the motors handling 100 percent of the rear drive.

During driving, independent control of the drive force for all tires enhances drivability. Specifically, when the steering wheel is turned, rear drive force is increased, resulting in characteristics that respond instantly to the driver's input. When the steering wheel is returned, front drive force is increased, prioritizing stability.

In urban driving with frequent stops and starts, all wheels are driven by the motors at launch, achieving powerful, fuel-efficient, and quiet acceleration. During cornering, torque is increased to the outer rear wheel and decreased to the inner wheel, generating an inward yaw moment that enables quick and smooth cornering.
