A 'Speciale' After 12 Years
This 'speciale,' codenamed "F150,"as previously reported, will adopt Ferrari's first-ever hybrid system. While it will feature the new 740ps 6.3-liter V12 engine, the same as in the "F12berlinetta,it combines this with the "HY-KERS electric hybrid system, not only reducing the 0-200 km/h acceleration time by approximately 10 percent but also succeeding in reducing emissions by 40 percent.
Chassis Developmentwas researched for three years with the involvement of Rory Byrne, the racing designer for Ferrari's F1 team. To achieve the "maximum efficiency" and "lightest weight" targeted by the next-speciale, the carbon fiber monocoque utilizes materials, design methods, manufacturing processes, and equipment actually employed by the F1 team's composites department. This has resulted in significant upgrades, with torsional rigidity increased by 27 percent and beam rigidity by 22 percent compared to the "Enzo Ferrari."
Furthermore, the internal space of the body has been meticulously compacted to accommodate the complex mechanical units. Not only the batteries, which require new space due to hybridization, but also the fuel tank are positioned in the area behind the driver, similar to an F1 car. This lower placement contributes to a lower center of gravity for the entire vehicle.
As a result, despite being a V12-powered vehicle equipped with HY-KERS and a dual-clutch transmission, it achieves a vehicle height and short wheelbase comparable to the "458 Italia".
Approximately 12 years since the debut of the Enzo Ferrari, Ferrari's limited-edition special model is finally ready for its launch. Following the earlier announcement of theMcLaren "P1,"this year's Geneva Motor Show promises to be an exceptional year for supercar fans, occurring perhaps once a decade.
