Evolutionary Refinement
The Geneva Motor Show 2013, opening in MarchDetailed specifications for the new Continental Flying Spur, which will have its world premiere at the show, along with design details and photos that were previously released as sketches, have been announced.
As previously reported, changes include the position of the door handles, mirrors, and roofline. The angle of the cut in the rear quarter glass has also been altered from a forward-facing to a rearward-facing shape, significantly changing its impression.
Furthermore, the considerable redesign of the rear section is another factor that has significantly altered the car's impression. The slimmer, wrap-around taillights, combined with changes to the trunk lid and bumper to accommodate the new license plate position, create a lower, more elegant, and composed image.
Of course, the luxurious interior, crafted by artisans using natural leather and mirror-finished natural wood in keeping with Bentley's tradition, remains unchanged.
With the exception of a few parts such as the sun visors, grab handles, armrests, front console, and control buttons, all other interior components have been redesigned and replaced. The total number of these parts is said to be an astonishing 600.
Additionally, both 4-seater and 5-seater configurations are available. The 4-seater model features a center console that extends from the front, offering distinct interior spaces for each configuration. A wide selection of 12 interior colors is also offered.
The standard audio system features 8 channels and 8 speakers, compatible with CD, DVD, SD card, and iPod.
It is equipped with "Balanced Mode Radiator technology" to optimize sound quality and frequency range.
An optional "Naim for Bentley premium audio system" with a total output of 1,100W is also available.
Compromise Neither Comfort Nor Speed
The suspension, including the air suspension, has been set to be softer than the previous model. The spring rates have been softened by 10 percent at the front and 13 percent at the rear, while the anti-roll bars are over 10 percent softer and the suspension lever bushes are over 25 percent softer, contributing to an improved ride quality.
However, during sporty driving, the Continuous Damping Control (CDC) system instantly increases damping force, and the spring stiffness is increased during sharp turns to ensure vehicle stability across all speed ranges. This achieves both excellent ride comfort and high dynamic performance. The standard tire size is 275/45ZR19.
Information regarding the powertrain has also been disclosed in this announcement. Currently, the confirmed engine is the familiar 6-liter W12 twin-turbo engine from the Continental family, with improved specifications boasting a maximum output of 625 ps/6,000 rpm and a maximum torque of 800 Nm/2,000 rpm.
Coupled with an 8-speed ZF automatic transmission and driving all four wheels, it accelerates the 2,475 kg vehicle from a standstill to 100 km/h in just 4.6 seconds, with a top speed of 322 km/h. While the Mulsanne 2014 model boasts an incredible maximum torque of 1,020 Nm,Mulsannethe Flying Spur surpasses all other performance figures, making it the fastest four-door saloon in Bentley's history.
AlreadyContinental GT V8The 4-liter V8 engine, which has been adopted in the Continental GT V8 and was anticipated for the Flying Spur, has not been announced this time. We look forward to future developments.
