An Open-Top Version of Audi's True Sports Model Appears
Audi will exhibit the "A5" high-performance model, the "RS5 Cabriolet," an open-top version of the "RS5" at the Paris Motor Show. The "RS5 Cabriolet" is the latest addition to the "RS" series of high-performance models developed and manufactured by quattro GmbH, a subsidiary of Audi, and is positioned as the open-top version of the "RS5." It is based on the Audi A5 series, which includes coupe and convertible body styles.
While the "A5" also offers the "S5" coupe and "S5 Cabriolet" as its premium sporty models, the "RS5" features a distinct tuning that sets it apart from other Audi sporty lines. This includes an aggressive exterior with large front air intakes and blister fenders, a luxurious and sporty interior, and a 4.2-liter V8 naturally aspirated engine producing a maximum output of 450 ps.
The engine, shared with the coupe "RS5," is based on the naturally aspirated 4.2-liter V8 direct-injection gasoline unit found in Audi's top model, the mid-ship supercar "R8". However, its performance, with a maximum output of 331 kW (450 ps) at 8,250 rpm and a maximum torque of 430 Nm (43.8 kgm) from 4,000 to 6,000 rpm, boasts an increase of 30 ps compared to the "R8." The power-to-weight ratio is 4.267 kg/ps, an excellent figure for a luxury sports model.
The transmission is Audi's renowned DCT (dual-clutch transmission), the "7-speed S tronic," paired with the full-time four-wheel-drive "quattro" system that distributes optimal torque to each wheel.
Furthermore, it features suspension specifically tuned for the "RS5" and an optional ceramic brake system. Even as a convertible, it does not compromise on driving performance, adhering to the principle of "enjoyment of driving at will," just like the coupe "RS5," which is hailed as the revival of "Big Quattro."
In terms of performance, the 0-100 km/h acceleration is 4.9 seconds (4.6 seconds for the coupe), and the top speed is 250 km/h (with limiter activated), demonstrating top-tier performance among open-top cars in its class. Like the coupe, the speed limiter can be removed as an option, allowing for a top speed of up to 280 km/h.
