The Most Expensive California Spider in History
At the "Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance" automotive event held in Monterey, California,Flagship Model "F12"Ferrari, which made the North American debut of its flagship model "F12," also showcased its "Tailor Made" personalized program, with the first North American car featuring this program,"FF"and the FF on an ice circuit, among other attractions that enlivened the gallery. However, the biggest highlight of the weekend event was undoubtedly another Prancing Horse, the "250 GT LWB California Spider Competizione." This is one of only nine rare examples developed as competition models and manufactured in 1960.
Incidentally, this car was consigned to auction from the collection of automotive collector Sherman M. Wolf. Mr. Wolf acquired it from the first owner in 1979, and it remained in his possession in mint condition until its exhibition at this auction.
The winning bid was 11,275,000 US dollars, approximately 900 million yen. This is, of course, the highest auction price ever for a Ferrari California Spider. Furthermore, according to "Gooding & Company," which conducted the auction, other notable sales at the same venue included a 1953 "340MM" for 4.73 million US dollars, a 1955 "857 Sport" for 6.27 million US dollars, and a 1957 "Ferrari 250 GT LWB California Spider Prototype" for 6.6 million US dollars.
