A New High-Performance Coupe
The M6 is a special model based on the 6 Series, BMW's luxury coupe, which has undergone high-performance tuning by BMW M.The 6 Series, announced last April, has been redesigned, and the new M6 Coupeat this year's Geneva International Motor Show in March, and the M6 Cabriolet at the New York International Auto Show in April, were unveiled respectively.
The engine is a twin-turbocharged 4.4-liter V8, combining BMW's patented cross-bank exhaust manifold, direct fuel injection, and Valvetronic. It's a high-revving engine that reaches 7,000 rpm, producing a maximum output of 412 kW (560 hp) at 6,000 rpm and a maximum torque of 680 Nm (69.3 kgm) from 1,500 to 5,750 rpm. This immense power drives the rear wheels through a 7-speed M DCT Drivelogic (dual-clutch transmission), achieving a brisk 0-100 km/h acceleration in 4.2 seconds for the coupe and 4.3 seconds for the cabriolet.
While details are covered in a previous report, along with this high-performance engine, the car features a carbon fiber roof for weight reduction, an Active M Differential that optimally controls the power distribution between the left and right rear wheels to maximize traction, and lightweight opposed-piston brake calipers. BMW states that these elements deliver ultimate driving dynamics.
Furthermore, despite being a high-performance car, it also meets the environmental demands of the era. Equipped with features like the engine auto start/stop function and brake energy regeneration system, its fuel consumption is 9.9 L/100 km (approximately 10.1 km/L) on the NEDC cycle, a 30% improvement over the previous generation.
The 6 Series also includes a 5-door version,Gran Coupe, which was also announced at the Geneva International Motor Show and is also highly anticipated.
In Japan, the M6 Coupe is priced at 16.95 million yen, and the M6 Cabriolet at 17.6 million yen. Deliveries for the M6 Coupe are scheduled for October, while the M6 Cabriolet is expected to arrive earlier, in July.
