Launch Begins in the US
The "X1," BMW's entry-grade crossover in its X model lineup, has undergone its first model change since its launch in 2009 and will be unveiled at the New York International Auto Show.
Photos released in advance show a redesigned bumper and a more prominent front grille, lending a more powerful impression. Turn signals are also integrated into the door mirrors.
According to BMW, changes have also been made to the rear bumper, underguard, and taillights. The interior, however, appears to be largely unchanged from the previous generation.
The new X1 will be launched in the US with three models: the rear-wheel-drive "sDrive28i" and the all-wheel-drive "xDrive28i" and "xDrive35i." The sDrive28i and xDrive28i will feature a four-cylinder engine with a maximum output of 180 kW (245 hp), while the xDrive35i will be equipped with a six-cylinder engine delivering 225 kW (306 hp). Both are gasoline engines, and are said to achieve low fuel consumption through twin-scroll turbochargers, direct fuel injection, Valvetronic variable valve timing technology, and Double VANOS variable camshaft control technology.
Sales in the United States will begin in July.
