A Car That Turns You Blue
Throughout this Geneva Motor Show, I found myself wondering, "Is Japan okay?"Volkswagen Polo BlueGTThis was one of the cars that made me feel that sense of unease.
With its first-ever cylinder deactivation system and energy recovery braking, fuel economy easily surpasses 20 km/l. Furthermore, the 1.4-liter TSI engine, producing 140 ps, can reach speeds of up to 210 km/h.
Judging by the high level of refinement in Volkswagen's compact cars in recent years, it should also offer stability at high speeds and a fun-to-drive experience. In other words, a practical compact car that's both fun to drive and fuel-efficient will soon be on our roads.
Japanese cars, in their pursuit of fuel efficiency, have neglected to strengthen their fundamentals, and now face the consequence of feeling unreliable at high speeds. If one were only looking at the Japanese market, a car focused solely on fuel economy might suffice, but can such cars compete globally? Gazing at the Polo BlueGT fills me with optimism as a car enthusiast, but a sense of melancholy as a Japanese national.
Golf Cabriolet GTI Also Unveiled
Another car,Golf Cabriolet GTIwas also unveiled. As a fast open-top, it is what it is, but it undoubtedly added to the glamorous atmosphere of the Geneva Motor Show.
