Bigger Yet Smaller
The key to the new Boxster is that it has become bigger while also becoming smaller.
First, the body has grown larger, yet the weight has decreased. While the body has expanded by 32mm in overall length and 60mm in wheelbase, it has achieved a weight reduction of up to 35kg compared to the previous model.
And another point: engine output has increased by 10ps to 265ps, yet the engine displacement has been reduced by 187cc to 2706cc.
Imagining from the specifications, one can surmise: 'The extended wheelbase adds stability,' 'the weight reduction enhances agility,' and 'the increased output improves acceleration.' But how does it perform in reality?
Meanwhile, the Boxster S retains the same 3436cc engine displacement as the previous model, with a 5ps increase in power to 310ps. What was interesting was the strong emphasis on the fact that the Boxster S shaved 12 seconds off its Nürburgring lap time, breaking the 8-minute barrier (recording 7 minutes and 58 seconds). I found myself wondering if Porsche had always been this sensitive about Nürburgring times. Ah, perhaps they are consciously targeting the Nissan GT-R as a direct rival.
