Production Model Expected at Geneva in March Next Year
The "C-HR," first introduced as Toyota's new-generation compact crossover concept at last September's Paris Motor Show, featured a design motif of a diamond, expressing both lightness and strength. It incorporated Toyota's recent design themes: "Keen Look" and "Under Priority," which considers aerodynamics, cooling performance, and pedestrian protection.
The "C-HR Concept" presented at Frankfurt this time appears as a further design study. The exterior features a black roof and a body color more akin to a production vehicle, with the addition of two rear doors.
Furthermore, for production, the vehicle will utilize the same platform as the next-generation Prius, based on Toyota's "Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA)" initiative. In terms of fuel efficiency, the company aims for further improvements by pursuing an engine thermal efficiency exceeding 40 percent and by making the hybrid system components, including the motor and battery, more compact and lighter.
Toyota has announced that a production model based on the C-HR Concept is scheduled to be unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show in March 2016. We eagerly await further details on how the C-HR Concept, eyed as a "Prius SUV" and refined since last year's Paris Motor Show, will appear in its final form.
