Test Drive: Renault Lutecia E-TECH Hybrid – Sporty Performance Meets Astonishing Fuel Economy | Renault

Experience Renault's Prowess

The transmission has another significant feature. Like the Arkana, it doesn't use a clutch or torque converter like a conventional transmission. While this allows for smooth engagement between the engine and gears, it can lead to some energy loss, affecting fuel economy.
To minimize these losses, Renault developed a dog-clutch transmission, which omits the aforementioned clutch and torque converter. This technology, common in motorsports where shift times are critical, directly connects the gears on the output and drivetrain sides.
Direct connection can often cause significant jolts, so Renault employs electronic control technology here. Through motor control, they have successfully achieved shock-free engagement of both gears.
Indeed, the experience is enhanced by its strong acceleration, smooth power delivery at high speeds, and the engine's quiet operation. Furthermore, the fuel economy is astonishing.
The Lutecia E-TECH Hybrid boasts a fuel efficiency of 25.2 km/liter, which Renault claims is the best among imported cars. This significantly surpasses the Arkana's impressive 22.8 km/liter. It is expected to achieve even better figures on the highway.
The current generation Lutecia, introduced in 2021, features advanced driver-assistance systems. The Lutecia E-TECH Hybrid further includes a lane-keeping assist system that operates between approximately 70 km/h and 180 km/h. A shark fin antenna on the roof is another distinguishing feature.
The package, with a body length of 4,075mm and a wheelbase of 2,585mm, offers ample space for four adults. Combined with its stylish body, which underpins the Lutecia's popularity in Japan, this model truly showcases Renault's expertise in hatchbacks, a legacy dating back to the 1970s. The price is 3.29 million yen, with a leather pack option available for 3.44 million yen.
