The Ultimate SUV? — A Test Drive of the Lamborghini Urus | Lamborghini

A Car for Enjoying the Feel of Rear-Wheel Drive

The 3,996cc V8 engine produces a maximum output of 478kW (650ps) and a maximum torque of 850Nm, generating truly immense power. It drives all four wheels, accelerating the generously sized body—5112mm long and 1638mm high—with a sharp, sports-car-like surge.
The engine torque is distributed between the front and rear at a 40:60 ratio via an 8-speed torque converter automatic transmission. The torque distribution is electronically controlled according to driving style and road conditions, with up to 70 percent sent to the front and up to 87 percent to the rear. Fundamentally, it's a car designed for driving enjoyment, emphasizing the feel of rear-wheel drive.
Equipped with rear-wheel steering, the rear wheels turn in the opposite direction to the front wheels on tight corners, effectively shortening the wheelbase (equivalent to up to -600mm) and allowing for tighter turns.
When you turn the thick-gripped steering wheel, the nose tucks in sharply, allowing you to navigate corners at high speed. At higher speeds, the rear wheels turn in the same direction as the front, enhancing stability.
The drive mode selector is located on the center console. In addition to the standard mode, the inclusion of Sport and Corsa (Track) modes is very Lamborghini. Meanwhile, the Snow and Sand modes are likely included with markets like the Middle East and China, where this car sells well (or so I believe).
Four people can enjoy music in the climate-controlled cabin, and there's ample space for golf bags or snowboards. While meticulously designed as an SUV, the sheer joy of driving makes the time spent traveling incredibly fulfilling.
The in-car infotainment system offers navigation (with over-the-air map updates in some regions), traffic information, and cameras to check the vehicle's surroundings, making the slightly larger body easier to handle.
The styling, both inside and out, is a key part of the Urus's appeal. While designs that make a strong initial impression can sometimes age quickly, the Urus has not aged at all.

The cabin, which appears somewhat compact like a coupe, the aggressive front with its large air intakes, and the sharp lines on the sides are unique to the Urus. Its thoroughly crafted individuality likely keeps it looking fresh.
Within the group, there's the Audi RS Q8, which shares essentially the same underpinnings as the Urus. While also very fast with its four rings, its power figures are slightly lower than the Urus's—441kW (600ps) and 800Nm—and its styling isn't as aggressive. It's a well-executed model, but the Urus's individuality still stands out. The price, ¥30,681,071 (tax included), also contributes to its extraordinary presence.
