A Sedan Worthy of Renewed Attention
In the past, Japanese automakers strived to catch up to and surpass their Western competitors, engaging in intense competition to build cars. Lexus continues to meticulously study rival vehicles today. However, what's interesting is how their research approach has evolved.
"Our current comparative testing with German rivals is an exercise to confirm how distinctively individualistic our cars have become," states Yoichi Mizuno, who oversees vehicle performance development.
The hybrid LS500h benefits from the electric motor's substantial torque of 300 Nm from very low speeds, providing exceptionally smooth acceleration from a standstill to highway speeds. Furthermore, the F Sport model excels in balancing a sensitive steering feel with a responsive chassis. The supportive seats and the well-gripped leather-wrapped steering wheel contribute to a sense of unity with the drive, making everything feel seamlessly integrated.
The "Version L" trim is also compelling. Its slightly softer suspension settings and the corresponding steering feel offer a different, yet equally enjoyable, driving experience.
The LS500h starts at ¥12,190,000 for the "I Package." The LS500h Version L tested here is priced at ¥14,930,000, and the LS500h F Sport (both rear-wheel drive) is ¥13,510,000. As a product that allows you to experience the appeal of a sedan with the gravitas of its large body, it is a vehicle worthy of renewed attention.
