McLaren's Brand Strategy, as Told by Asia Pacific Director Charlotte Dixon

The Artura Spider: Where McLaren's Innovation and Passion Converge

The Artura Spider is the model Ms. Dickson most recommends right now.
"The Artura Spider is a culmination of McLaren's innovation and passion. With four drive modes, it adapts to various scenarios, from cruising in the city to high-performance driving on the track. Furthermore, you can fully enjoy the pleasure of open-air driving. We want many people to experience the Artura Spider. I believe they will truly appreciate the essence of McLaren."

We had the opportunity to test drive the Artura Spider. Although the route was only about 30 km from the city center, along the Tokyo Bay Aqua-Line to Daikoku Parking Area, it was sufficient to understand the car's all-around capabilities. While we couldn't unleash its overwhelming performance due to traffic congestion and heavy traffic, it provided an opportunity to appreciate its everyday usability.
Even in the lingering heat of late summer, the cabin remained comfortable during open-top driving. The high-performance air conditioning effectively kept the external heat at bay. Within the 80 km/h speed limit, the meticulous aerodynamic design minimized wind buffeting, allowing for conversations during the drive.
In a tunnel on the Tokyo Bay Aqua-Line, traffic suddenly stopped, necessitating the closing of the roof. However, at speeds below 50 km/h, a single button press transformed the car into a coupe in just 11 seconds, creating a space completely sealed off from the outside.

As a new generation supercar with a PHEV powertrain, the Artura Spider is equipped with an EV mode that runs solely on electric power. With a range of 31 km, it is sufficient for urban use. The ability to drive through residential areas in the early morning or late at night without worrying about engine noise is a significant advantage.
While the suspension is firm, the high rigidity of the carbon composite chassis prevents unpleasant vibrations from reaching the occupants, even on rough roads. Despite its capability of exceeding 300 km/h, it offers a comfortable ride, almost like a conventional coupe, to put it mildly.

The Artura Spider's distinguishing feature is the masterful fusion of overwhelming performance and everyday usability. As Ms. Dickson stated, it possesses a remarkable versatility that adapts to various situations, from urban driving to track performance. The flexibility to switch between open and closed configurations according to the situation further enhances the car's appeal. It truly embodies the ideal form of a modern supercar.
