A Day with Cadillac for Noteworthy Creators—CT5 × Interior Stylist Katsunori Kubokawa & Travel Journalist Hisako Iijima | Cadillac
Presented by CADILLACThe Reasons Why Cadillac's Flagship Sedan Holds an Exquisite Position Today
As they admired the CT5 from the outside, the couple began discussing the Cadillac brand. Kubokawa, who values the craftsmanship in every aspect of a car, not just the interior, has always felt a strong connection to Cadillac.
"For me, Cadillac is synonymous with a prestigious car for adults. I like traditional car types like sedans and coupes, and the CT5's silhouette is beautifully streamlined with a coupe-like feel, while still suggesting ample rear-seat space. Plus, the vertical taillights and the edge down the center of the body are reminiscent of classic Cadillacs."
"Indeed, it has a presence in the best sense. European saloons can feel a bit too sleek, but with a Cadillac, it feels like a deliberate choice. The design is refined, perhaps even a little understated, but it never gets lost in the crowd. Today's Cadillacs have a fresh brand image, something unique, making them a wonderful addition to one's car history."
Iijima echoed these sentiments. The creator couple seemed to appreciate the understated elegance of the Cadillac CT5, embodying an American sensibility.
"Regardless of my profession, I've always been particular about a car's comfort, quality, and interior. After all, you spend most of your time inside the car. The CT5 uses real materials for everything you see and touch, whether it's the aluminum or the wood – nothing is 'faux.' That's what makes it feel calm and luxurious. At the same time, the red stitching on the leather and the fibers within the carbon panels add a vibrant touch. And the Bose audio system, with its punched aluminum speaker covers, offers a sense of individuality within the calm atmosphere."
As she took in the overall interior ambiance, Iijima continued.
"It's quite rare to find a luxury car interior that isn't too heavy or too light, but strikes just the right balance. It's not overly ornate just because it's luxurious, nor is it overly 'exciting' for a younger audience. It feels comfortable, with a sense of understated quality from the materials."
"When I grip the steering wheel, seeing the Cadillac logo in the center elevates my mood. The ride is smooth and composed, with just the right amount of sportiness, making it feel like the car is responding directly to my hands. It's incredibly quiet and the ride quality is superb. Does it even have noise cancellation for the audio system? What was the engine displacement and transmission type?"
When told it was a 2.0-liter inline-4 turbo engine with a 10-speed automatic transmission, Kubokawa's eyes widened in surprise.
"No way! It's a 4-cylinder? Not some cylinder-deactivation system making it a 4-cylinder? And a 10-speed automatic! It's so smooth, I can't even tell when it shifts or what gear it's in."
