World's First 9,000 RPM Redline for a Production Car

The "458 Italia" is a new model incorporating the latest technology derived from motorsport, featuring a newly developed 4,499cc V8 engine. This engine boasts a redline of 9,000 rpm, a world first for a production car, delivering a maximum output of 570 HP and a peak torque of 540 Nm at 6,000 rpm.

Coupled with an F1 dual-clutch transmission, this latest unit achieves astonishing performance figures: 0-100 km/h in under 3.4 seconds and a top speed of 325 km/h. Furthermore, the direct injection system in this new engine enhances combustion efficiency, leading to improved fuel economy of 13.3 liters per 100 km (approximately 7.5 km/l).

The dry weight is 1,380 kg. The weight distribution, with 42 percent at the front and 58 percent at the rear, is ideal for a rear mid-engine sports car. With advancements in electronic control systems, it promises maximum performance under all driving conditions. The suspension system has also been completely redesigned from previous models, featuring double wishbones with L-arms at the front and multi-links at the rear. Further tuning has been applied to achieve ultimate road-holding and superior handling.

Steering Wheel Evokes F1 Machines

The exterior design was handled by Pininfarina. The styling, which achieves a high level of design without compromising aerodynamic requirements, is characterized by compact and aerodynamically efficient lines. The design incorporates know-how cultivated in F1, with small winglets on the front nose and a flattened underfloor, generating 140 kg of downforce at 200 km/h.

The interior reflects the exterior design concept, resulting in a highly race-inspired finish. Features include a minimalist center console and the placement of all essential command switches on the steering wheel, a technique also seen in F1.

Many fans are captivated by the "Cavallino Rampante," known in Japan as the "prancing horse." Born in Modena, Italy, in 1898, Enzo was inspired by a race he saw in Bologna at the age of 10, eventually aspiring to become a racing driver himself. His unwavering ambition steadily moved towards realization, and in 1920, Enzo became a test driver for Alfa Romeo. In the same year, he competed as an Alfa driver in the Targa Florio, achieving an impressive second place.

However, Enzo's interest soon shifted to managing a racing team, leading him to establish Scuderia Ferrari in 1929 and take over Alfa's racing activities. Despite his prowess, his relationship with Alfa ended in 1939. After World War II, in 1947, he resumed racing with his own V12-powered "Ferrari 125," marking the beginning of Ferrari's journey as a sports car brand.

Ferrari later became part of the Fiat group. Under the leadership of President Luca Montezemolo, who also serves as chairman of the Fiat Group, the brand continues to enhance its allure.
