The New Cayenne Family Arrives
On the first press day of the Paris Motor Show, October 2nd, the world premiere was announced for thenew Cayenne.
With the introduction of this new model, Porsche has evolved all its hybrid models to plug-in hybrid systems. The Cayenne aims to establish a new benchmark in the premium SUV segment with this plug-in hybrid model.
The powertrain for the "Cayenne S E-Hybrid," a first for the Cayenne, combines a 3.0-liter V6 engine with a supercharger and an electric motor. The engine alone produces a maximum output of 245 kW, and the motor alone produces 24 kW. The system as a whole delivers a maximum output of 306 kW / 5,500 rpm and boasts a maximum torque of 590 Nm / 1,250-4,000 rpm.
The transmission is an 8-speed Tiptronic only. It drives all four wheels, achieving 0-100 km/h in 5.9 seconds and a top speed of 243 km/h. Fuel efficiency is also excellent, consuming just 3.4 liters per 100 km (approximately 29.4 km/l), with CO2 emissions kept to 79 g/km.
The drive battery is a 10.8 kWh lithium-ion cell. Depending on conditions, it can travel approximately 18-36 km on electric power alone, similar to an electric vehicle. The motor alone can achieve a top speed of 125 km/h.
Prior to the Cayenne, the first Porsche plug-in hybrid model introduced to the market was thePanamera S E-Hybrid, which accounted for 9 percent (1,513 units) of the 16,698 "Panamera" models shipped by August this year. Porsche anticipates the Cayenne will follow a similar trend.
At the Paris Motor Show, alongside this hybrid model, the new Cayenne lineup, including the "Cayenne S" and the flagship "Cayenne Turbo" equipped with a 4.8-liter V8 twin-turbo engine, will be unveiled to the public for the first time.
