Volkswagen Announces Pricing for its First Mass-Produced EV, the e-up!



Volkswagen has announced the pricing for its first mass-produced electric vehicle, thee-up!, scheduled for release this year.

Volkswagen will enter two electric vehicles into the E-Car Rally, held in Silvretta, near the Austrian and Swiss border. One is the "XL1," considered the most efficient production car, equipped with a plug-in hybrid diesel engine, and the other is Volkswagen's first mass-market EV, the "e-up!"XL1, and the other is Volkswagen's first mass-market EV, the "e-up!"

According to Volkswagen, the reason for entering this rally is to prove that the electric power unit, as a replacement for the engine, possesses sufficient reliability even on the steep roads of the Alps.

Concurrently, the price of the electric vehicle "e-up!," based on the "up!" which is one of the rally entries, has been announced.up!, based on the "up!", has been announced.

Specifications are as previously reported: the electric motor delivers a maximum output of 60 kW (82 ps) and a maximum torque of 210 Nm. It accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 12.4 seconds and reaches a top speed of 130 km/h. The lithium-ion battery has a capacity of 18.7 kWh. Volkswagen states that the driving range is 160 km according to NEDC calculations, and the cost of electricity for 100 km of driving is only 3 Euros.



In Europe, it will be available with standard charging using a 230V socket, charging at home via a wall box, and rapid charging that can reach 80% in 30 minutes. It will also feature network connectivity, allowing control via smartphone, fulfilling the basic requirements expected of an EV.



Regarding pricing, the base model of the standard up!, equipped with features equivalent to higher trim levels, is priced at 26,900 Euros. Its public debut will be at theFrankfurt Motor Show, at which time Volkswagen's EV market strategy, including leasing and car-sharing options, is expected to be revealed.
