All-Wheel Drive Models Debut for the 7th Generation 911

Reservations Open for the New Porsche 911 Carrera 4

AlreadyFeatured on OPENERSWe've been covering the core Porsche model, the "911," here on OPENERS. Now, the latest 911, the 7th generation known as the 991, finally sees the introduction of an all-wheel drive model. Reservations have promptly opened in Japan!

A Single Red Line Connecting the Taillights

Porsche Japan will begin accepting reservations for the "911 Carrera 4" and "911 Carrera 4S," in both coupe and cabriolet forms, starting August 29th.

The key focus, the active all-wheel drive system "Porsche Traction Management (PTM)," is reportedly set to prioritize rear torque, delivering optimal dynamics regardless of road conditions or weather, according to Porsche.

Beyond this enhanced all-wheel drive system, the differences from the rear-wheel drive 911 include wheel arches widened by 22mm on each side (44mm total), tires that are 10mm wider, and the addition of the traditional single red line connecting the taillights.

Additional Options for the Entire 911 Range

For the Carrera 4, the traditional five-dial instrument cluster gains a new indicator showing the current torque distribution between the front and rear wheels.

Coinciding with the Carrera 4's announcement, the 911 range as a whole, not just the all-wheel drive models, receives optional features and minor enhancements. Firstly, the "Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC)" with predictive function is now available as an option. In conjunction with this, for "Porsche Doppelkupplung (PDK)" models, "Porsche Active Safety (PAS)" is added to assist the driver in avoiding frontal collisions.

Furthermore, also as an option, a glass sliding sunroof has been added to the coupe models. Additionally, for manual transmission models equipped with the Sport Chrono Package, a new function will be available: during Sport Plus mode driving, downshifts will automatically perform a double-clutch maneuver.

Inheriting the Success of the 997

Increased Efficiencyis a hallmark of the 991 "911," but the lightweight body, design, suspension, engine, and 7-speed transmission that support it are identical to the rear-wheel drive models. The all-wheel drive model is up to 65kg lighter and 16% more fuel-efficient than its predecessor, the late 997 generation all-wheel drive model.

With 24,000 units sold worldwide and a 34% market share for the late 997 generation 911, the all-wheel drive model. Porsche aims to build upon this success with the 991 Carrera 4.

The world premiere will be at the Paris Motor Show. Deliveries will commence sequentially from the end of 2012, starting in Germany.

Detailed pricing, specifications, and features for the Japanese market are as follows.

Porsche has also released a video of the 911 Carrera 4.
