Maximum Range of 300km Achieved

Approximately 60 years ago, the world's first van was born from Volkswagen. Its internal code was "T1," meaning "Transporter 1." In the US, it was commonly known as the "Microbus," and in Germany, it was called the "Bulli." The 2011 version of this vehicle is the new model unveiled this time.

The biggest talking point of this vehicle is, of course, that it is an electric car. The motor, powered by a lithium-ion battery with a capacity of up to 40kWh, delivers a maximum output of 85kW and a peak torque of 270Nm. With a maximum range of 300km, it's a remarkably impressive figure when compared to other electric vehicles like the Nissan Leaf (200km) and the Mitsubishi i-MiEV (160km). What's more, it can be fully charged in just one hour at a specially designed "Electric Station" – truly astonishing. The 0-100km/h acceleration in 11.5 seconds and a top speed of 140km/h should be more than adequate.

The Bulli is equipped with an electric motor in front of the front axle, driving the front wheels. The motor, along with a 12-volt high-voltage pulse inverter and a DC/DC converter, are compactly housed here, contributing to maximizing interior space.

Infotainment Highlights: Information Viewable via iPad

Currently, the body color is limited to the two-tone red and white announced this time. The front design features dual headlights with LEDs arranged in a long, horizontal L-shape, similar to the Microbus Concept model unveiled in 2001. The rear is also equipped with slim lights utilizing LEDs.

The body dimensions are 3,990mm in length, 1,759mm in width, and 1,700mm in height, making it somewhat more compact than the T1. However, the track width is designed to be wide relative to the body width. It can accommodate up to six passengers, and the luggage space is a generous 370 liters (expanding to a maximum of 1,600 liters when the rear seats are folded), which is another appealing feature.

Another notable feature is the "Infotainment Highlights," which allows the iPad to be installed in the center console and used as a multi-function display.

This function enables users to check Bluetooth hands-free phone calls, operate the navigation system, and view speedometer and multi-function information on the iPad. The iPad is, of course, removable. As it's an electric vehicle, a tachometer is unnecessary, and the traditional shift lever has been eliminated. The shift lever has been replaced by a rotary switch to the right of the driver, which also functions as the motor's start/stop button. With all these elements smartly integrated, the cabin interior boasts a remarkably simple design.

While there's no mention of actual sales figures at this stage, we sincerely hope this new model will be launched into the market as a suitable and practical mobility solution for contemporary times.
