Engine: 2-Liter 4-Cylinder Direct Injection Gasoline + Turbo Only
The "Audi A5 Sportback 2.0 TFSI quattro" is a new model added to the A5 lineup, which also includes the 2-door coupe A5 and the 4-seat convertible A5 Cabriolet. Despite being a four-door, its flowing, sloped rear features a liftback fastback style, making it highly practical and stylish – its key characteristic.
The model introduced in Japan combines a 2-liter 4-cylinder gasoline direct-injection engine with an intercooled turbocharger, pursuing both power and fuel efficiency. This is paired with the quattro all-wheel-drive system. It delivers a maximum output of 211 ps and a peak torque of 35.7 kgm. Notably, the torque is available from low RPMs (1500-4200 rpm), providing ample power even in city driving.
Rear Seat Comfort is Also Excellent
Audi Japan describes it as "a stylish four-door coupe that embodies Audi's 'Vorsprung durch Technik' (Vorsprung through Technology)." They claim it achieves "the elegance of a coupe, the practicality of an Avant with its large tailgate, and the prestige of a four-door sedan." Indeed, it looks like a two-door, yet the rear seats offer ample headroom and legroom, showcasing a well-executed concept that is truly noteworthy.
The driving experience is another significant feature. Those familiar with recent Audis may already know, but the handling and engine power deliver an exceptionally sporty impression. This doesn't mean it's difficult to drive; rather, anyone behind the wheel will experience a delightful surprise, realizing, 'Cars can move exactly as I intend, and be this much fun!'

BRAND HISTORY
Audi's emblem is the "Four Rings." As you may know, each ring represents one of the automotive manufacturers: Audi, DKW, Horch, and Wanderer. All were based in Saxony and were pioneers of the German automotive industry in the early 20th century. However, facing the Great Depression after World War I, the four companies formed Auto Union in 1932 to survive. DKW specialized in motorcycles and small cars, Wanderer in mid-size cars, Audi in premium mid-size cars, and Horch in luxury cars.
However, following Germany's defeat in World War II, Saxony in East Germany fell under Soviet occupation, and Auto Union dissolved. Anticipating this, the new Auto Union was established in Ingolstadt, Bavaria, in West Germany. Unlike BMW and Mercedes-Benz, Auto Union faced a challenging start without existing factories, but gradually gained strength through production of vehicles like the DKW delivery van.
Auto Union, acquired by Volkswagen at the end of 1964, soon introduced new models bearing the Audi name. In 1969, it merged with NSU (known for its development of the Wankel engine), headquartered in Neckarsulm, becoming Audi NSU Auto Union. From 1985 onwards, it has continued as Audi to the present day. Technologies like quattro, dynamic performance backed by motorsport activities, elegant design, and high-quality finishes are driving Audi's popularity.
