A Full Hybrid Car with EV Mode
The LF-Ch was developed as an entry-level model positioned below the "IS" series. It has now been announced that it will debut as a full hybrid, five-door hatchback with an EV mode (system details are not yet public).
From the front styling revealed this time, we can see sharp LED headlamps, a distinctive bumper design, and flared fenders. An image sketch was released on August 17th, and similar to that image, the car conveys a compact yet wide and low sporty atmosphere.
The rear styling photos released on September 1st reveal a unique rear bumper shape reminiscent of a racing car, and a compact rear window, suggesting a taste that echoes Lexus's supercar, the "LF-A." This styling certainly builds anticipation for its driving performance.
The Lexus LF-Ch is scheduled for its official debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show. Lexus announced, "The LF-Ch will further solidify Lexus's position as the only premium brand with a full hybrid lineup. The LF-Ch is a model that will best satisfy the needs of customers in the premium compact segment."
BRAND HISTORY
Toyota launched its luxury car brand LEXUS in the American market in 1989. The aim was to offer a new value, distinct from American and German luxury cars, through Toyota's renowned technological prowess, superior quality, and exceptional customer service.
Upon the launch of the "LS400" (domestic name: Celsior) and "ES250" (domestic name: Camry) in the American market in September of the same year, the LS400 quickly earned the title of Best Imported Car by February 1990. Subsequently, Lexus's reputation continued to grow, and with an expanding lineup, it solidified its position as a luxury car brand.
Following its success in America, Lexus expanded into Europe in 2004 and announced its business development in Japan in May of that year. In August 2005, it launched its luxury car business in its home country. Initially, the lineup lacked a flagship "LS," featuring the "GS" (successor to Toyota's Aristo), "SC" (domestic name: Soarer), and "IS" (successor to Toyota's Altezza). However, the introduction of the long-awaited new LS in September 2006, followed by its hybrid version, the "LS600h/LS600hL," in May 2007, met the expectations of luxury saloon buyers.
Meanwhile, Lexus has focused on building a sporty image, announcing the sports model "IS F" in October 2007 and entering the development-stage sports coupe "LF-A" in the Nürburgring 24 Hours race in May 2008. Further expansion of its popularity is anticipated.
