A Circuit-Only Car Targeting High Amateurs
The "599XX" is a circuit-only car developed based on the 599, targeting high amateurs as users. In fact, Ferrari plans to implement a limited circuit event program for the "599XX" in 2010 and 2011. As this race-exclusive specification model is not intended for use in official races, it is free from the constraints of homologation (approval) and legal systems, allowing for the integration of the highest level of technology. Aerodynamic and electronic control functions, along with innovative handling technologies, are brought together for the first time in one vehicle, achieving a lap time of just 1 minute 17 seconds at Fiorano and 7 minutes at the Nürburgring. From these figures, it is clear that this machine is a true technological laboratory.
Ferrari's Pinnacle Technology, Integrated
The Ferrari "599XX" emerges as a model that integrates Ferrari's highest technologies, while retaining the transaxle layout and engine from its base, the 599. Ferrari's engineers focused on improving the engine's combustion chamber and intake/exhaust ports, reducing internal friction to achieve a maximum rotation speed of 9000 rpm and a target output of 700 ps/9000 rpm. Furthermore, attention was paid to reducing the weight of the engine unit's components. Significant achievements were made through component shape optimization, as seen in the new crankshaft, and the use of special parts such as carbon fiber for the intake plenum.
Additionally, a new gearbox shift strategy reduces gear change times to a total of 60 milliseconds.
Adoption of Innovative Electronic Control Systems
Furthermore, this model adopts an innovative electronic control system called the "High Performance Dynamic Concept." This system electronically controls a combination of the car's various mechanical limits, enabling consistent lap times even in situations demanding extreme performance. It also features the second-generation SCM suspension system, further refining its sporty handling capabilities.
Smoother Airflow, Reduced Drag
The aerodynamics, born from numerous wind tunnel tests, boast 280 kg of downforce at 200 km/h. A distinctive feature is the "ActiFlow" system, which increases downforce and reduces drag according to the car's attitude during cornering. Two fans installed in the trunk expel airflow from beneath the vehicle through two grilles next to the taillights. Additionally, winglets have been added to the rear frame to enhance downforce, and synthetic jets have been incorporated at the rear of the vehicle to smooth airflow and reduce resistance.
Naturally, F1 technology has also been fed back. Ferrari's unique F1 technology, covering the brake discs and part of the wheel rims with F1-specific "donuts," has been adopted to achieve more effective aerodynamics and brake cooling.
The slick tires fitted to the "599XX" (front: 29/67 R19, rear: 31/71 R19) were specially developed to maximize cornering stability and lateral acceleration.
This Ferrari can be described as the ultimate sports car, embodying all of the company's accumulated technologies.
