Ferrari California: A Detailed Look at the New Model

Suddenly announced on May 13th,Ferrarirevealed details of its new 2+2 convertible, the "Ferrari California."

The photos released this time feature the "California color," the same as the spider announced at the 1960s New York Show. This brings a bright image to the design, handled by Pininfarina.

The dimensions are 4560mm in length, 1900mm in width, and a wheelbase of 2700mm. What's noteworthy is the luggage space, with a sufficient capacity of 360 liters normally, and 260 liters even with the hardtop retracted. It's also a key point that it's the first Ferrari to feature a pass-through mechanism, indicating it's a practical model. The also-first electric hardtop can be retracted in 14 seconds.

It employs a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission and a launch control system to assist with quick starts. While CO2 emissions were announced as 310g/km, fuel economy was also revealed this time: 13.2 liters/100km, or approximately 7.6km/liter, which is a respectable figure.

BRAND HISTORY
Many fans' hearts race at the sight of the "Cavallino Rampante" emblem, known in Japan as the "prancing horse." FERRARI is a car that excites crowds with its fierce performance on the circuit and captivates people with its elegant silhouette and high-pitched sound on the street. This brand, which pursues the ultimate in speed in both F1 and road cars, still carries the strong passion of its founder, Enzo Ferrari.

Born in Modena, Italy, in 1898, Enzo was so moved by a race he saw in Bologna at the age of 10 that he decided he would become a racing driver. His singular ambition steadily moved toward realization, and in 1920, Enzo became a test driver for Alfa Romeo. In the same year, he competed as an Alfa driver in the Targa Florio, achieving an impressive second-place finish.

However, Enzo's interest eventually shifted to managing a racing team, and in 1929, he established Scuderia Ferrari, taking on Alfa's racing activities. Despite his prowess, his relationship with Alfa ended in 1939. After World War II, in 1947, he resumed racing with his own "Ferrari 125," equipped with a V12 engine. This marked the beginning of Ferrari's journey as a sports car brand.

Subsequently, Ferrari came under the Fiat umbrella. Currently, under President Luca Montezemolo, who also serves as chairman of the Fiat Group, the brand continues to enhance its appeal. The lineup consists of five models: the V12-powered "599" and "612 Scaglietti," the mid-engine V8 sports cars "F430" and "F430 Spider," and the ultra-sporty "430 Scuderia."
