A Mid-Mounted 5.2-Liter Direct-Injection V10 Engine

The Audi R8 is a sports car born from Audi's extensive racing technology, inheriting its genes from models that have achieved remarkable success in various races. The "R8 Spyder," now available in Japan, is the top-tier open-top model within the R8 lineup.
First unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September 2009, the R8 Spyder began accepting reservations in Japan in February 2010, with sales commencing on October 6th.

The R8 Spyder is powered by a high-revving, dry-sump lubricated FSI 5.2-liter direct-injection V10 engine. It produces a maximum output of 386kW (525ps) and peak torque of 530Nm at 6500rpm. The quattro all-wheel-drive system, with a rear-biased torque distribution of 15:85 (front:rear), delivers tenacious traction. It also maintains balanced driving stability by being able to increase front wheel torque bias by up to 30 percent depending on the situation. It accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.1 seconds and reaches a top speed of 313 km/h. Combined with the 6-speed R tronic transmission, featuring paddle shifters and a "launch control" function, it boasts exceptional acceleration performance.

Achieving Both Enhanced Rigidity and Elegant Styling

The roof features a compact soft top weighing just 42kg. While offering excellent weather resistance and thermal insulation, it also contributes to an elegant styling that differs from the open-top appearance. This soft top can be opened and closed with a single touch, taking just 19 seconds, and can operate even while driving at speeds up to 50 km/h. The large soft top cover incorporates carbon fiber reinforced plastic, and the body, constructed entirely from aluminum using the "Audi Space Frame (ASF)," helps suppress weight increase. To counteract the reduction in rigidity due to the open-top design, meticulous reinforcements have been made, including strengthening the high-load center tunnel and rear bulkhead, reinforcing the pillar areas, and increasing the thickness of the side sills.

The interior features fine nappa leather sports seats that help suppress surface temperature rise from direct sunlight. Furthermore, the inclusion of seatbelt microphones ensures clear hands-free calls even with the top down, maintaining interior comfort.

The standard retail price is 21.94 million yen. Ceramic brakes and "Audi magnetic ride" are available as options.
