Pushing the M5's Performance to the Limit
Announced in Europe in May of this year alongside the "5 Series" facelift, theBMW M5has further enhanced its aerodynamic performance, bolstered safety features, and adopted adaptive LED headlights, achieving an even higher level of refinement. Simultaneously, the addition of the "Competition Package," an option designed to push its capabilities to the limit, has become a topic of discussion.
This time, for a limited period until August 30th,the special site "BMW M HEAT"began accepting purchase inquiries for the "BMW M5 Nighthawk (Night Hawk)," a limited model of just 10 units in Japan. The body color is a matte black called Frozen Black, a dedicated color for this car. The wheels are 20-inch, lightweight forged wheels, also finished in a dedicated matte black paint. The kidney grille, side gills, door handles, and sports exhaust tailpipes feature a dark chrome finish.
The interior features a deep orange leather called "Sakhir Orange" not only on the seats but also on the door panels, center console sides, instrument panel, and the back of the seats, creating a contrast with the black roof liner and center console. The trim is "BMW M Performance Carbon Interior Trim."
Finally, a plate engraved with the serial number from 1/10 to 10/10, along with the "Nighthawk" lettering, is fitted.
A Monstrous 575 Horsepower
Regarding the noteworthy dynamic performance, the aforementioned Competition Package boosts the maximum output of the 4.4-liter V8 M TwinPower Turbo engine from the standard 412 kW (560 hp) to 423 kW (575 hp).
In line with the enhanced engine performance, the suspension has been retuned with revised dampers and springs, lowering the ride height by 10mm compared to the standard M5. Tuning extends to the stabilizers and subframe mounts, achieving a 0-100 km/h acceleration time of 4.2 seconds, a 0.1-second improvement over the standard M5 (European specification for M5 with Competition Package).
Meanwhile, the brakes controlling the Nighthawk's power are equipped with the "M Carbon Ceramic Brake System." This system excels in fade resistance and, being lighter than conventional brake systems, reduces unsprung weight by approximately 20 kg. It contributes not only to stopping performance but also to improved driving dynamics.
TheBMW M5 Nighthawkis available only in left-hand drive specification and is priced at 18.2 million yen. Of the total 10 units, 8 are offered with an optional electric glass sunroof for an additional 170,000 yen. Production began in July 2013, with deliveries scheduled to commence in October.
