First Clean Diesel Model Launched

BMW has announced plans to sequentially introduce BluePerformance models equipped with clean diesel engines that meet the Post New Long-Term regulations, alongside its ActiveHybrid models featuring hybrid systems. The X5 xDrive35d BluePerformance, for which orders open today, marks the vanguard of this initiative.

BluePerformance technology centers on exhaust gas treatment, including a system that injects urea solution to significantly reduce NOx (nitrogen oxides) in exhaust gases, and a DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter) that traps and burns off particulate matter in the exhaust.

In the X5 xDrive35d BluePerformance, a 3-liter inline 6-cylinder twin-turbo diesel engine precedes this system, paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission. It also incorporates BMW's signature technologies, such as the brake energy regeneration system.

Minor Changes to Standard Equipment

The X5 xDrive35d BluePerformance has been certified as an eco-car tax reduction model, exempting it from automobile acquisition tax and weight tax. Concurrently, to further accentuate its powerful styling compared to the gasoline model, the xDrive35i, it comes standard with 19-inch wheels. Additionally, the Head-Up Display, which was an option on the X5 xDrive35i, is now standard. The price is 8.39 million yen.
