Lacking a Ferrari Feel?
FerrariThe FF (Ferrari Four), Ferrari's new flagship and its first four-wheel-drive model, garnered attention for its unique shooting brake-inspired exterior design. AUTOCAR
magazine's road tester, Jamie Coastfin, has published his impressions on the magazine's YouTube account, so we will convey his review.
Coastfin does not seem to be particularly fond of this Ferrari FF. He feels that the traction control intervenes more than necessary, controlling the power and detracting from the "Ferrari-like" sense of immediacy. In the video, when approaching a hairpin turn, he shifts to first gear, floors the throttle, and the car is captured attempting to maintain a straight posture as it accelerates out. He also states that he finds it difficult to accurately perceive the car's behavior through steering inputs and throttle application, indicating a lack of information.
Of course, there are many aspects he praises. For example, the handling is exceptional, achieving agility comparable to the 458 Italia despite being a GT car. The downsized gearbox is smooth, and acceleration is as brisk as a V8 model. While the engine itself occasionally seems to pause, it has ample power and does not feel sluggish.
In terms of practicality, he appreciates the large 91-liter fuel tank, the generous 450-liter trunk capacity suitable for a GT car, and its lightweight, compact nature, noting that the interior space is also sufficient. Furthermore, it can stably transmit traction to the road even on slippery surfaces like snow, making it usable year-round.
Regarding the exterior design, he likens it to a jar of Marmite (a yeast extract spread popular in the UK and Commonwealth countries), but calls it a sensible image change for a four-seater Ferrari.
In conclusion, while the system itself is highly capable, it deviates from what makes a Ferrari feel like a Ferrari, and he finds it difficult to understand why it was finished this way. He concludes that the FF's value lies primarily in being a Ferrari, a value that only its customers can truly appreciate.
