640i: CO2 Emissions of 179g/km

The new 6 Series Coupe, like the previously announced open-top model, is a coupe with a commanding presence, featuring a long hood known as the "shark nose" combined with the traditional kidney grille that slopes forward, and equipped with bi-xenon headlights. Furthermore, the Hofmeister kink on the C-pillar, an icon of BMW along with the kidney grille, asserts its presence. At the rear, LED taillights and dual exhaust systems catch the eye. The body size has been increased in length by 74mm and the wheelbase by 75mm compared to the previous model, with a 39mm increase in width, enhancing interior space.

There are two engine options. The 640i is powered by a 3.0-liter inline-six twin-power turbo (twin-scroll turbo) engine, delivering a maximum output of 235kW (320ps) at 5,800rpm and a maximum torque of 450Nm (45.9kgm) from 1,300 to 4,500rpm. It accelerates from 0 to 100km/h in 5.4 seconds, with a top speed electronically limited to 155mph (250km/h). Equipped with an idling stop system and brake energy regeneration, along with low rolling resistance tires, it achieves a favorable fuel economy of 7.7ℓ/100km (13.0km/ℓ) and CO2 emissions of 179g/km.

The engine for the 650i is a 4.4-liter V8, also equipped with twin-power turbo. It produces a maximum output of 300kW (408ps) from 5,500 to 6,400rpm and a maximum torque of 600Nm (61.2kgm) from 1,750 to 4,500rpm. The top speed is also limited to 155mph (250km/h), similar to the 640i. Acceleration from 0 to 100km/h takes 4.9 seconds, with fuel economy at 10.4ℓ/100km (9.6km/ℓ) and CO2 emissions at 243g/km. Both engines are paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters.

Sales to Begin This Autumn in European Markets

The interior is also largely consistent with the open-top model. It features Dakota leather seats, high-gloss black trim, and a freestanding 7-inch display. The luggage space is a generous 460 liters. Optional features include heated/ventilated seats, a panoramic sunroof, a Bang & Olufsen audio system, GPS navigation, and a 10.2-inch display.

As expected from BMW, which champions "EfficientDynamics," this luxury coupe incorporates numerous environmental performance initiatives alongside enhanced driving dynamics. LEDs are standard for the taillights, with adaptive LED headlights available as an option. The power steering is electric as standard, with an optional Integral Active Steering system. This not only optimally adjusts steering assist but also allows the rear wheels to turn in the opposite phase at speeds below 60km/h, enhancing responsiveness and saving power used for assist. These features demonstrate a commitment to fuel efficiency without compromising driving pleasure, reflecting comprehensive environmental considerations.

Despite its authentic BMW coupe exterior, the new 6 Series Coupe never forgets its EfficientDynamics principles. Scheduled for release in European markets this autumn, with a four-door coupe also in the pipeline, it is certainly one to watch.
