A Limited Edition Top Model of 987 Units
Following the recently announced911 Black Edition, the "Boxster S Black Edition" has been newly added to the Boxster lineup. The design is consistently black down to the details, including the rear side air intake grilles and the twin tailpipes of the exhaust system, which are finished in black paint. Furthermore, the black-painted model name logo on the rear luggage compartment lid and the "Black Edition" model name embossed on the side of the fabric soft top emphasize its Black Edition status. Additionally, even the rollover bars are painted black.
Looking at the interior, the stainless steel door entry guards are engraved with the "Black Edition" model name logo in black, and the trim strips on the dashboard and the shift lever/selector lever are also finished in black paint. The standard SportDesign steering wheel features a rim finished in smooth leather with a non-slip grip and sporty contours.
Furthermore, black is also used for the partial leather seats, which are adorned with an embossed Porsche Crest on the headrests, and the instrument cluster. A black leather interior is available as an option, and a serial number plate indicating the Black Edition model is fitted to the glove box.
This Boxster S Black Edition comes standard with the "Comfort" and "Design" package equipment, which are usually optional, as well as a wind deflector, auto-dimming rearview mirror and door mirrors (with integrated rain sensor), cruise control, and climate control system. Optional features include the Porsche Ceramic Composite Brake (PCCB), Porsche Active Suspension Management system (PASM), and adaptive sports seats with memory function.
The engine is a 3.4-liter flat-six engine with direct fuel injection. While the Boxster S has a maximum output of 228 kW (310 ps) at 6,400 rpm, this model achieves 235 kW (320 ps) at 7,200 rpm, and the maximum torque is also increased from the Boxster S's 360 Nm (36.7 kgm) at 4,400-5,500 rpm to 370 Nm (37.7 kgm) at 4,750 rpm. With a 6-speed manual transmission, the 0-100 km/h acceleration is 0.1 seconds faster than the Boxster S at 5.2 seconds, and the top speed reaches 276 km/h, 2 km/h higher. With the 7-speed PDK, the 0-100 km/h acceleration time is reduced to 5.1 seconds, and the top speed is 274 km/h.
While the performance has improved, the European combined fuel consumption figures are the same as the Boxster S, with the 6-speed manual model rated at 9.8 ℓ/100 km (10.2 km/ℓ) and the 7-speed PDK model at 9.4 ℓ/100 km (10.6 km/ℓ). The tires are 235/35 ZR 19 at the front and 265/35 ZR 19 at the rear.
The number of units allocated to Japan and the pricing for this Boxster S Black Edition are yet to be determined, but it is scheduled to be progressively introduced to markets worldwide starting in March 2011.
