The Car Called "Living Art" (1)
The "One-77," a sports car from British manufacturer Aston Martin with a limited production of just 77 units, has been unveiled in Japan. While its 760ps V12 engine is impressive, the choice of the "Cirque du Soleil" theater as a venue was fitting for such an exclusive brand.

A Delicate Front Mask by Craftsmen
The "One-77" is a two-seater sports car with a front mid-ship mounted V12 engine driving the rear wheels. Its defining characteristic is that every aspect is bespoke. Take, for instance, the front mask. With its distinctive design, where the headlamps and front fenders seem to merge, the delicate curves, seemingly impossible to achieve in mass production, leave a striking impression.
"The aluminum body is handmade by skilled artisans. A small team created this car, much like a work of art. We call this car 'Living Art,'" said Marek Reichman, Design Director, who flew in from the UK for the unveiling.
This unveiling was held to announce the commencement of "One-77" production to journalists and Aston Martin customers. Marketed as an "Asia Tour," similar events will be held in Singapore, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and China, starting with Japan.

An Entrance with Theatrical Flair
"The Asia Pacific is a very important market. We have expanded into Taiwan and China, and our dealer network now spans 14 countries, with plans for further growth," stated Aston Martin.
In Japan, 200 guests were invited to witness a show collaborating with the Cirque du Soleil performance "ZED™" at the "Cirque du Soleil Theater Tokyo" in Maihama, Chiba. Cirque du Soleil, meaning "Circus of the Sun," is a completely new form of entertainment founded in Canada in 1984. It is known for its shows that combine dramatic elements, opera, live music, and acrobatic performances.
In recent years, their show "LOVE," based on Beatles songs arranged by George Martin and featuring a quartet reminiscent of the Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, garnered significant attention in Las Vegas. "ZED," which premiered in October 2008, tells the story of a protagonist traveling between heaven and earth, ultimately leading to their fusion. The performance utilized the venue's towering ceiling, equivalent to a seven-story building, to create a breathtaking spectacle before the "One-77" emerged from a stage extension in the center.

A Beautifully Housed V12 Engine
Lifting the lightweight bonnet reveals an engine bay dominated by an intricate lattice of expensive carbon fiber cross-members. Tucked behind the front axle and towards the cabin is the 7312cc V12 engine. Significantly reworked from the 6-liter unit found in models like the DBS, it achieves a maximum output of 760ps and peak torque of 750Nm. The dry-sump lubrication system allows it to be mounted 100mm lower than in previous V12 models. Peeking through, one can glimpse the hand-bent exhaust manifolds, reminiscent of a Formula car, finished with a beautiful white crystal coating.
Acceleration from standstill to 100 km/h takes less than 3.7 seconds. With a stated top speed of 354 km/h, it boasts the highest performance of any production sports car from Aston Martin. It is also the most extravagant. As mentioned, the engine bay alone showcases the extensive use of costly materials and the meticulous craftsmanship involved.
A Masterpiece Crafted as a Singular Work of Art
Inside, the intricate design of the dashboard, seats, and door panels is captivating. Furthermore, many exotic and expensive materials are used, such as carbon fiber, leather, and metals typically found in luxury watches. This creates a unique world for the "One-77," clearly setting it apart from other automobiles.
"We have already received a considerable number of orders. This car is finished individually according to the owner's preferences. No two cars will be exactly alike," said Design Director Reichman, who also presented the "One-77" during the Cirque du Soleil performance.
Beyond just body color and interior finishes, Aston Martin engineers will tailor the suspension settings to the customer's preference, ranging from "long-distance GT to Nürburgring race car specifications."
The "One-77" features a carbon fiber monocoque chassis with an aluminum body. Contrasting with its flowing lines, the 20-inch wheels make a bold, sporty statement. It is equipped with aerodynamic components such as a carbon fiber diffuser and an active rear spoiler, all cleverly integrated into the body to achieve a harmonious balance between elegance and sportiness. The price is 1.15 million pounds sterling (approximately 150 million yen at an exchange rate of 130 yen to the pound). Delivery will take place six months after an order is placed.
