An Elegant Space Born from Differentiation with the X1

The newly announced "BMW X3" is the successor to the first-generation X3, which sold 600,000 units worldwide. It features a body that is a size larger than the first generation, with a more expansive interior. This is likely influenced by the introduction of the smaller SUV, the X1, into BMW's lineup. The actual dimensions are 4648mm in length, 1881mm in width, and 1661mm in height (European specifications), with a wheelbase of 2810mm. These figures are larger overall compared to the current "335i Touring."

The exterior design adopts a wedge shape, combining a flat front end with a raised rear, creating a sporty atmosphere.
Naturally, BMW's signature kidney grille remains, forming a distinctive BMW front face along with the underguard integrated into the bumper and the large headlights.
Also characteristic are the six press lines extending from the kidney grille, which create a unique presence.

Turning to the interior, it not only follows BMW's traditional design with the center console angled towards the driver but also boasts improved quality compared to the previous model. Storage compartments, trays, and cup holders have been incorporated, making it suitable for a wide range of uses. The rear seats are also considerably more spacious, offering ample room even for three adults. Furthermore, the adoption of a 4:2:4 split-folding rear seatback facilitates the loading of long items, expanding the cargo capacity from 550 liters with the rear seats up to 1600 liters when folded.

Three engine options are available. The entry-level "X3 xDrive 28i" is equipped with a 3.0-liter inline-six gasoline engine producing a maximum output of 243 ps and peak torque of 31.8 kgm, achieving 0-100 km/h in 6.9 seconds and a top speed of 210 km/h. The "X3 xDrive35i" features a 3.0-liter inline-six twin-turbo gasoline engine, boasting a maximum output of 306 ps and peak torque of 40.8 kgm, with a 0-100 km/h acceleration of 5.7 seconds and a top speed of 245 km/h.
A "X3 xDrive20d" equipped with a 2.0-liter inline-four diesel turbo engine is also offered, though its availability in the US market has not yet been decided. This model delivers a maximum output of 184 ps and peak torque of 38.8 kgm, achieving 0-100 km/h in 8.5 seconds and a top speed of 210 km/h.

The transmission options include an 8-speed automatic with Auto Start-Stop function for the "xDrive35i," and a choice of a 6-speed manual or an 8-speed automatic for the "xDrive20d." All models come standard with the "xDrive" full-time all-wheel-drive system, and for the first time in the X3, a speed-sensitive electric power steering system is employed. Dynamic Damper Control and Dynamic Driving Control, familiar from other sedans, are also available as options.
