Michiko Fujiwara on Embracing Sincerity This Year

In the second part of our interview with Michiko Fujiwara, who pens a monthly essay for OPENERS' beauty section, she declares her goals for 2015, extending from her previous discussion on overcoming the 'three-day dropout' syndrome.

Just Do It Every Day!

Until the year before last (2013), I had a detailed schedule: running twice a week, stretching four times, yoga three times, and so on. I practiced this for two to three years, but then I realized this approach wasn't working.

I understood that instead of setting specific routines and frequencies, I should just do them daily, like brushing my teeth or washing my face. So, last year, I decided to do whatever I felt like—yoga, serotonin meditation, stretching—every day. And I managed to do it. When you decide, you somehow find the time. Plus, doing it daily makes it easier to form a habit. This was a new experience for me.

Let's Pursue Results with Sincerity

Building on that, my goal for this year is to 'do things to achieve results.' Until now, my goal was simply to continue, but since I've overcome that, I want to see tangible outcomes next. For example, with yoga, I want to challenge myself to achieve poses I've admired and actually be able to do them.

Beauty, for me, is an extension of that curiosity. Last year, I experimented with 'skin fasting'—going without toners and lotions—and tried various organic cosmetics.

Personally, my current interest lies in achieving beautiful skin that doesn't require foundation. This involves not just cosmetics, but also diet, exercise, lifestyle habits, and mentality. In other words, I'm interested in approaching skin and beauty from the perspective of my thoughts and daily life as a whole.

Noticing Cosmetic Ingredients, Starting to Read Labels

Indeed, the current beauty landscape is a blend of chemical cosmetics and holistic approaches, further expanding into fitness and nutrition. Organic cosmetics are also evolving rapidly, and I, too, now read ingredient lists more carefully than before.

Beyond one's very early years, I truly believe that for women, beauty runs parallel to their way of life. That's precisely what makes it so engaging and fascinating. Perhaps viewing beauty through this lens might reveal a different facet of it.
