The "DS Line," born from collaboration with Harvard Medical School, debuted in 2005. This functional skincare line, developed in cooperation with dermatologists and skincare experts to address age-related changes, environmental factors, sensitive skin, and various skin needs, evolved further in 2010, culminating in Kiehl's first whitening line, the "DS Ultimate White Line."
According to Dr. Adam Geyer, a medical and cosmetic dermatology specialist who collaborated on the development of the "DS Ultimate White Line," Asian skin is characterized by high melanin content in melanocytes, long dendritic projections, a large number of melanocytes, and large individual cells. This makes the skin prone to pigmentation and the formation of dark spots. Focusing on this tendency, a unique combination of natural ingredients was used to develop a formula that inhibits melanin production.
Ascorbyl Glucoside (a derivative of Vitamin C), Plum Extract (Prunus Extract), and Cherry Leaf Extract (Prunus Yedoensis Leaf Extract) inhibit melanin production within melanocytes. Furthermore, it suppresses the transfer of melanin within melanocytes and its migration to keratinocytes. Additionally, the incorporated minerals softly focus light, enveloping the skin in clarity and leading to a visibly smoother, more even complexion. In essence, it slows down both the initial and final stages of melanin production to inhibit its formation.
