Seiko Presage x Studio Ghibli "Porco Rosso" Limited Edition Models Released

Details Reflecting the Adriatic Sea and Savoia S-21 Flying Boat from "Porco Rosso"

The "Seiko Presage Studio Ghibli Porco Rosso Collaboration Model" is a collaborative watch born from the shared philosophy of sincere craftsmanship, cherished by both Presage and Studio Ghibli. Utilizing enamel, a traditional technique previously employed by Presage, and inspired by Studio Ghibli's animated feature film "Porco Rosso," these models express contemporary Japanese artistry.

Studio Ghibli was established in June 1985 with the aim of producing animated films by directors Isao Takahata and Hayao Miyazaki. With its unique creative world, distinctive visuals, and compelling narratives, it continues to garner support from animation fans worldwide.

One of its representative works is "Porco Rosso," released in 1992. Set in the Adriatic Sea of the 1920s, the film depicts Porco Rosso, a man who has transformed himself into a pig through a curse, working as a bounty hunter against rampaging sky pirates. It is a masterpiece imbued with the romance of flight through its vibrant animation.

The design of these models incorporates details inspired by the beautiful scenery of the Adriatic Sea and the depiction of Porco's flying boat, the Savoia S-21. The dial draws inspiration from the cockpit display panels of the flying boat, featuring highly legible hour and minute hands, Arabic numerals, and precise minute markers. To express a warm beauty, the dial is equipped with white and black enamel dials supervised by master enamel craftsman Mitsuru Yokosawa.

There are two models in total. On the Spring Drive model, the "R" mark on the tail of the Savoia S-21 is placed at the 6 o'clock position, while on the mechanical model, it is at the 3 o'clock position, along with the tail's color scheme. The Spring Drive model expresses the tail's color scheme through a combination of a white dial, a red second hand, and a green power reserve indicator. The black dial of the mechanical model features a specially crafted second hand inspired by the propeller, paying homage to the details of "Porco Rosso."

Furthermore, Porco's silhouette is depicted on the glass of the see-through case back, revealing the beauty of the movement. Around the glass, the memorable line from the film, "A pig who doesn't fly is just a pig," is inscribed in Italian. Two straps are included: one in the vivid red of the Savoia S-21, and another black strap accented with red, white, and green stitching, matching the tail colors.

This limited collaboration model comes in a special wooden box featuring a message from director Hayao Miyazaki, "Let's live without being bound by time." It includes two straps and a chamois cloth for the watch, engraved with Porco's image. The Spring Drive model is limited to 500 pieces worldwide, and the mechanical model to 600 pieces worldwide.
