A new Black Bay Chrono S&G revives a neo-vintage aesthetic while honoring Tudor's heritage.
Among the collection, the Black Bay Chrono S&G, a chronograph in stainless steel and yellow gold, has been released, exuding a particularly chic aura. This new model embodies the purest form of Tudor's sports watch tradition and is equipped with a high-performance Manufacture Caliber.
The reversible S&G version released two years ago
The "Tudor Oysterdate," the brand's first chronograph, was born in 1970. Since then, Tudor has maintained a close connection with motorsport, just as its divers' watches have evolved since 1954. The "Black Bay Chrono" fuses these dual aquatic and terrestrial traditions. Beneath its dial, which offers a powerful contrast with the sub-counters, lies a high-performance Manufacture Caliber featuring a column wheel and a vertical clutch.
The 41mm case, crafted from stainless steel and yellow gold, features polished and satin finishes, a fixed yellow gold bezel, a black anodized aluminum insert, and a tachymeter. The dial showcases the "Snowflake" hands, a Tudor icon since 1969, remaining faithful to the Black Bay aesthetic while achieving high legibility through its domed shape, recessed counters, and the contrast between matte black and champagne colors.
In keeping with the tradition of Tudor chronographs, a 45-minute counter is positioned at 9 o'clock, and the date is displayed at 6 o'clock. The two sub-dials feature a circular-grained finish. Furthermore, the yellow gold pushers are inspired by Tudor's early chronographs. The fixed yellow gold bezel, with its black anodized aluminum insert and tachymeter, lends a sporty expression befitting a refined chronograph.
The strap for the "Black Bay Chrono S&G" is made of fabric, produced on 19th-century looms by Julien Faure, a company in Saint-Étienne, France, with over 150 years of family operation. Additionally, one can choose between a stainless steel and yellow gold riveted bracelet inspired by models from the 1950s and 60s, or a bunded aged leather strap with ecru stitching and a folding clasp. These truly represent the connection to motorsport inherited from the 1970s.
The Manufacture Chronograph Caliber "MT5813" powering the "Black Bay Chrono S&G" features hour, minute, and chronograph seconds hands, along with chronograph and date functions, and is finished with the distinctive aesthetic characteristic of other Tudor Manufacture Calibers. The monobloc tungsten rotor is openworked and features a sand-blasted satin finish. The bridges and mainplate are sand-blasted and polished, with laser-decorated accents.
This movement is based on Breitling's Manufacture Caliber "Breitling 01," combined with Tudor's advanced technology, representing a fusion of the expertise of both brands. It offers a power reserve of approximately 70 hours and features a silicon balance spring for antimagnetic properties, holding a Swiss Official Chronometer certification. While this certification sets a standard deviation of -4 to +6 seconds per day for the movement itself, Tudor further achieves a more stringent standard of -2 to +4 seconds per day when the watch is fully assembled. This is equally true for the "MT5813" with its vertical clutch and column wheel, a testament to the technology and tradition cultivated through a steadfast dedication to watchmaking. Such robust reliability is guaranteed by rigorous testing applied to all products.
Since the brand's founding by Hans Wilsdorf in 1926, Tudor's vision for creating the ideal watch has remained unchanged: the relentless pursuit of "robustness, durability, and precision." Through accumulated experience and expertise in producing exceptional quality, Tudor offers a five-year international warranty on all products purchased after January 1, 2020.
