Design Prioritizing Legibility & Movement Inheriting the Spirit of the First Speedtimer

A stopwatch for winter sports, used in international sporting events in 1972
SEIKO has long supported athletes striving for 0.1 and 0.01 second precision, notably by introducing stopwatches equipped with a "heart cam" start-stop mechanism at the 1964 Tokyo international sporting events, achieving high-precision timing in 0.01-second increments, which was previously impossible.

The stopwatch developed for the 1972 international winter sports competition pursued "high legibility" required for timing measurements even in blizzards, employing a matte black dial to ensure numbers, markers, and hands were easily visible against the snow. This all-black stopwatch, with its vividly colored red and white markings, stands as a milestone in SEIKO's sports timing history.
The limited edition model expresses the color scheme of the winter sports stopwatch, designed for high legibility, in a wristwatch format. It features a black dial that minimizes light reflection, and enhances visibility by using a brighter vermilion red for the markers and the chronograph totalizer at the 9 o'clock position. Furthermore, to prevent misreading, the central chronograph hand and the minute totalizer hand at 9 o'clock are colored white. The central chronograph hand, reaching to the outer edge of the dial, is bent at its tip to bring it as close as possible to the markers, pursuing legibility to the extreme. Lumibrite is applied to the hour and minute hands, as well as the five-minute indices, ensuring readability even in low light.
The wide, flat-top pushers are easy to press and operate reliably and accurately. The strap is made of calf leather with "concealed stitching" to prevent deterioration from sweat and sebum, enhancing durability.
The movement is the "Caliber 8R46," which inherits the spirit of the first Speedtimer. Equipped with a vertical clutch for excellent timing accuracy and a column wheel for reliable operation, it achieves high measurement accuracy and durability, including the instantaneous reset of the chronograph hand.
