Timeless Elegance, Elevated with a Refined Hue
The Ref. 5270 perpetual calendar chronograph, successor to Patek Philippe's iconic Ref. 1518 from 1941, has seen platinum and rose gold versions with a gold opaline dial and "drop" style 18K gold bracelets produced since 2018. Now, in 2020, this grand complication is reinterpreted with the arrival of the "Perpetual Calendar Chronograph 5270" in a new guise.
This model marks the first time an 18K yellow gold case has been used for this reference, featuring a concave bezel and stepped lugs that lend it a new, elegant exterior.
The silver opaline dial boasts exceptional legibility, adorned with 18K yellow gold baton hour markers and leaf hands. The perpetual calendar displays are harmoniously arranged, with a date hand at 6 o'clock, day and month apertures below 12 o'clock, and small windows for the day/night indicator and leap year cycle. The moon phase is, of course, a key element. The chronograph functions are indicated by sandblasted hands, with a tachymeter scale encircling the dial's periphery.
This model is powered by the Caliber CH 29-535 PS Q, Patek Philippe's first perpetual calendar chronograph movement developed and manufactured entirely in-house, unveiled in 2011. It features a traditional architecture with a horizontal clutch and column wheel, manual winding, six patented innovations for the chronograph function, and an exceptionally slim 1.65 mm calendar mechanism composed of 182 parts.
The movement can be admired through the sapphire crystal case back. An interchangeable 18K yellow gold solid case back is also supplied. The strap is crafted from large-square, hand-stitched alligator leather in a matte chocolate brown finish, secured by an 18K yellow gold folding clasp.
