From the "SPEEDTIMER" chronograph collection by SEIKO PROSPEX, a limited edition model commemorating the World Athletics Championships Oregon22, for which SEIKO served as the official timer, is scheduled for release on June 10, 2022 (Friday). It will be available in a worldwide limited edition of 400 pieces, with 100 pieces allocated for Japan.

SEIKO has been the official timer for the World Athletics Championships, the pinnacle of track and field events organized by World Athletics, since 1985. In the summer of 2022, SEIKO will serve as the official timer for the 17th consecutive time at the World Athletics Championships Oregon22, held in Eugene, Oregon, USA. To commemorate this event, the "SPEEDTIMER Mechanical Chronograph World Athletics Championships Oregon22 Limited Edition" will be released from the new "SPEEDTIMER" collection, launched in 2021, in a worldwide limited edition of 400 pieces, with 100 pieces for Japan.

The new "SPEEDTIMER" is a collection based on SEIKO's design philosophy, cultivated over many years, that pursues the high practicality required of timing instruments. The chronograph seconds hand is long enough to reach the tachymeter scale on the outer edge of the dial, and by bending the tip towards the dial, the distance to the scale is minimized, enhancing legibility. The push buttons are designed for ease of pressing, and the crown for ease of pulling, ensuring excellent operability, a crucial element for chronographs. Furthermore, the newly developed metal bracelet, with its moderate thickness and weight, provides high wearability in conjunction with the stability of the case, which has a lowered center of gravity.

For this model, vibrant yellow, SEIKO's iconic timing color, is used for the chronograph seconds hand and the 30-minute sub-dial at the 9 o'clock position. The sand-textured dial evokes the texture of the track on which athletes compete, creating a limited edition model that conveys the excitement of the stadium where intense battles unfold. The case back features the event's emblem, and an optional calf leather strap is included, with yellow accents on the stitching and lining, mirroring the dial. The strap incorporates a concealed stitch design to hide the seams on the back, preventing deterioration of the leather material from sweat and sebum while enhancing durability.

Through the see-through case back, the new mechanical chronograph movement "Caliber 8R46," which debuted alongside the "SPEEDTIMER" collection in 2021, is visible. It incorporates technologies inherited from the "1969 Speedtimer," such as a vertical clutch that suppresses hand deviation and jump during start-stop operations for excellent timing accuracy, and a column wheel that ensures reliable operation and stable performance, further evolved for high measurement accuracy and durability. The unique three-armed Seikosha hammer ensures the instantaneous reset of the chronograph hand and boasts high durability and excellent maintainability.
