Seiko 5 Sports Reimagined in Five Styles Symbolizing the Modern Era | SEIKO
SEIKO | SEIKO
Inheriting five features from the 1960s historical model, the "Seiko 5 Sports" is updated for the modern era.
The "Seikosportmatic 5" (commonly known as "Seiko Five"), released in 1963, was Japan's first automatic day-date model. The "Seiko 5 Sports," which has its roots in this model and boasts global popularity, has continued to evolve in both function and design. Now, the collection has been renewed and relaunched as the new "Seiko 5 Sports." A total of 15 models will be available, with sales scheduled to begin on Saturday, September 7, 2019.
The Popular Collection Returns as "Seiko 5 Sports"
Born in 1963 as the "Seiko Sportmatic 5," the watch evolved five years later in 1968 into the "Seiko 5 Sports" with specifications suited for more active pursuits. This globally popular brand is reborn this year, over half a century after its debut. In addition to the original features inherited from the first generation – automatic winding, water resistance, day-date display at 3 o'clock, a crown at 4 o'clock, and a durable case and bracelet – 15 models will be offered, designed with a concept symbolizing contemporary style.
With "Show Your Style" as its keyword, this collection features five distinct concepts: "Sports Style" to complement active scenes, "Suits Style" for an intelligent look, and "Specialist Style" for timeless, traditional attire. Notably, multiple designs are developed from a single case and dial mold, conveying a message to the wearer of transcending existing boundaries.
The relaunch also introduces a refreshed logo design. While retaining the emblem motif that was the symbol of Seiko Five, it has been updated to an urban-style logo that can be interpreted as either the number "5" or the initial "S" for Style and Sports. All models are equipped with the Caliber 4R36 mechanical movement, offering approximately 41 hours of power reserve, and allowing a view of the movement through the see-through case back.
