A Fusion of Locomotive-like Strength and Delicate Detail

Credor was born in 1974 as Japan's premier luxury dress watch brand. The name "Credor" originates from the French phrase "CRÊTE D’ OR," meaning "golden peak," embodying the aspiration to reach the pinnacle of quality and beauty in Japanese timepieces.
The original Credor Locomotive model (1979)
Among Credor's collections, the "Credor Locomotive" was born from a pursuit of unique and original designs that define the brand.
It was designed by the master watch designer Gérald Genta and first appeared in 1979.
Known as the "Picasso of watchmaking" for his avant-garde and diverse designs, Genta created numerous masterpieces. During the development of the Credor Locomotive, Genta visited Japan multiple times, forging a close relationship with Seiko. He considered this model one of his significant works.
The name "Locomotive" carries a dual meaning: "engine" and "that which provides traction." Genta bestowed this name during the model's development, wishing it to become a driving force for Credor and a model that would lead the future. Indeed, the advent of the Credor Locomotive ushered in greater diversity in case and bracelet designs, profoundly influencing the establishment of Credor's originality, which continues to this day.
For this revival, respect for Genta was paramount. Drawing inspiration from a single sketch he created during the original model's development, his vision has been reinterpreted. The detailed design, which could not be expressed at the time, has been realized in this new model.
The grayish-black dial is inspired by steam locomotives, adorned with a delicate pattern resembling the steam emitted from them. This pattern, based on a rendering created by the designer reinterpreting the original sketch, is meticulously engraved by machine, with approximately 1,600 lines etched one by one. The dial displays a variety of expressions depending on the viewing angle and light, becoming a striking feature of its appearance.
The case and bezel also feature a locomotive motif, creating an elegant yet powerful silhouette. The index at 12 o'clock has been changed from a single line to two, in line with the sketch.
The position of the crown has also been adjusted to the 4 o'clock position, faithfully following the sketch. The case, with its contrasting finishes from the bezel to the side, creates a sense of depth and a new aesthetic.
For the Credor Locomotive, the bracelet is a crucial design element. Featuring tapered links meticulously crafted down to the smallest detail towards the clasp, and hexagonal center links, its delicate intricacies convey the elegance of a dress watch. Made from bright titanium, it offers both comfortable wear and exceptional durability.
The movement is the mechanical Caliber CR01. Finished as a thin, three-hand mechanical movement, it achieves an elegant form under 9mm in thickness, mirroring the original model's quartz movement.
Regarding the revival of the Credor Locomotive, Evelyn Genta, Genta's widow and business partner, commented: "My late husband was always drawn to Asian countries and cultures. During his many visits to Japan, he cherished its culture, particularly the artisans' dedication to mastering their craft, their attention to detail, and their highly respected skills. He felt honored to work for Seiko. Knowing this piece is being revived, I am certain he would be delighted."
With its powerful yet elegant design and functional updates, the Credor Locomotive embodies the convergence of technological innovation over time and timeless beauty.
