German watchmaker JUNGHANS has released the "Max Bill Chronoscope Ltd1000," a limited edition watch commemorating the 100th anniversary of the Bauhaus, a design school symbolic of modernism. Only 1000 units were produced worldwide.

A Limited Watch Expressing Typical Bauhaus Design Elements

Founded in 1861 in the small Black Forest town of Schramberg, JUNGHANS has been a German watchmaker renowned for its high quality and reasonable prices for over 150 years, masterfully blending watchmaking tradition with design. In the early 1950s, JUNGHANS developers commissioned Max Bill, an artist who studied at the Bauhaus in Dessau, Germany, to design the company's first kitchen clock. In early 1961, they began manufacturing wristwatches designed by Max Bill.

Since then, JUNGHANS and Max Bill have created high-quality timepieces with cutting-edge technology, adhering to the Bauhaus principle of "form follows function"—a core tenet of the school and paramount in its creative process—while rigorously eliminating extraneous elements.

To commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Bauhaus, where Max Bill studied, the "Max Bill Chronoscope Ltd1000" was released, a watch that embodies the Bauhaus design philosophy for the modern era. Limited to 1000 units worldwide, this model is based on Max Bill's original designs and expresses typical Bauhaus design elements found in the school's architecture.

For instance, the red date display and hands evoke the famous red entrance of the Dessau building, while the case back is printed with the Bauhaus school building, allowing a glimpse of the movement through its windows. The grey and anthracite straps and case create a contrast with the matte white dial, weaving an interplay of light and shadow reminiscent of the windows in the Dessau Bauhaus building.
