An Homage to a 1940s Masterpiece Movement

In the 1940s, Jaeger-LeCoultre developed a movement featuring a triple calendar and moon phase, which gained renown in the watchmaking world, even being adopted by other leading Maisons.
Fifty years after Jaeger-LeCoultre began producing this triple-calendar movement, the Master Control collection was born in 1992. Its name derives from the pioneering "1000 Hours Control" certification. This certification protocol, which established a groundbreaking standard at the time by testing every cased watch, has continued to evolve with technological advancements.
In terms of design, it reinterpreted the classic round watches of the 1950s, creating a timeless elegance and establishing a unique position characterized by technical prowess and refined style.

The complete calendar in this new model displays the day, date, month, and moon phase. The day and month are positioned in the upper half of the dial, the moon phase in the lower half, and the date is indicated by a hand on the outer circumference, following a traditional layout.
The new grained dial uses alternating light and dark grey tones to clearly delineate each display, elevating the classic layout to one of excellent legibility. In the light grey central area, the day and month windows are positioned at the top, with black numerals applied via decal transfer onto white discs.
In the lower central part, the moon phase display is housed within a small seconds subdial, set against a starry blue sky where a mirror-polished moon subtly reflects the darker grey hue of the hour ring.

The minute chapter ring outside the hour circle is light grey, and the outermost date display circle has a dark grey background. The interplay of light absorption and reflection from the grained finish further emphasizes the contrast between the light and dark grey.
A subtle red accent on the date display and date hand around the dial's perimeter adds a discreet touch of contrast. All design codes of the Master Control collection are present, including the slender, triangular applied indices, the numerals at 12, 3, and 9 o'clock, and the faceted Dauphine hands, polished on one side and satin-finished on the other.
The 40mm case features a polished finish on the bezel and the upper part of the lugs, contrasted with a fine satin finish on the sides, exuding understated elegance.

The watch is powered by the in-house automatic Calibre 866, which displays the hours, minutes, seconds, complete calendar, and moon phase. It offers a practical power reserve of 70 hours.
A notable feature of Calibre 866 is its ingenious jumping date function. Once a month, between the 15th and 16th, the date hand with its red tip makes a swift 90-degree jump. This thoughtful design ensures that the moon phase display is never obscured by the date hand, allowing its beauty to be appreciated at all times.

This Master Control Calendar, with its two-tone grey palette, imbues the traditional triple calendar with a new expression. By merging a profound respect for the Maison's signature complication with contemporary sensibility, it has evolved a classical watch into a form befitting the present day.
