A New Journey Through the Cosmos for Watch Enthusiasts: The Blast Moonstruck
Ulysse Nardin introduces the Blast Moonstruck, a new model designed to poetically and accessibly express the relationship between the sun and moon. This is a rare timepiece that merges astronomical knowledge with exceptional watchmaking expertise.
Visualizing Complex Astronomical Data Intuitively and Modernly for Everyone
Manufacture Ulysse Nardin has unveiled its new astronomical watch, the Blast Moonstruck.
Housed within the geometric case of the "Blast" collection, this in-house world timer, through its reimagined mechanism, faithfully reproduces the visible solar orbit and lunar cycle, offering Ulysse Nardin's watch aficionados a new celestial journey.
This new Blast model, while drawing inspiration from the Ulysse Nardin astronomical trilogy created nearly 40 years ago by physicist and watchmaker Ludwig Exactus, visualizes celestial mechanics in a modern and intuitive style, making them understandable to all.
This piece recreates the moon's rotation, the apparent movement of the sun as observed from Earth, and tidal charts. It features three discs: the central disc representing Earth is made of domed sapphire crystal, with continents engraved on the interior as seen from the North Pole.
Surrounding this is a disc representing the moon, and further out, a disc made of bronzite, a rare mineral, represents the sun. In addition to the time display against a night sky backdrop, a fixed inner bezel with city names and a rotating disc marked with the time and a sun at 12 o'clock allow for reading times across the globe.
It also incorporates a dual-time mechanism; two pushers on the left side of the case center allow the main time display to be advanced or reversed in one-hour increments, easily adjusting to other time zones. A small window realistically depicts the phases of the moon, and the three-dimensional sun and moon at 12 o'clock on the main time display indicate their relationship.
Despite its complex appearance, the design is simple and easy to read, and all settings can be adjusted using the crown, making adjustments effortless. From setting the local time city to the second time zone and date, the complications within the manufacture's automatic UN-106 caliber ensure all displayed information is accurate while the watch is worn. When not in use, simply placing it back in the included box with an automatic winder will maintain the power reserve and calendar information.
